The Weather Girls

Zeitlos im Trend: Die Schwestern Dynelle Rhodes und Ingrid Arthur, besser bekannt als WEATHER GIRLS, sind ein beständiger Hit, wenn es um Dance, Pop und soulige Rhythmen geht. Seit mehr als 20 Jahren und im Laufe der Zeit in wechselnden Besetzungen wirbeln die temperamentvollen Ladies über die Bühnen und erfreuen ihre Fans mit kraftvollem Gesang, guter Laune und jeder Menge Stimmung.

Wer kennt nicht „It’s Raining Men“ oder auch „Can U Feel It“, die Titel, die nach dem internationalen Durchbruch mit weltweit hohen Chartplatzierungen in den vergangenen zwei Jahrzehnten vermutlich DIE Partyhymnen überhaupt geworden sind und seit dem über alle Grenzen hinweg die Menschen in ausgelassene Feierlaune versetzten. Schon seit Jahren sind diese Lieder von keiner Party mehr wegzudenken. Die WEATHER GIRLS begeistern dabei gleichermaßen jung und alt sowie „trendy“ und „normal“. Die Mädels sind einfach „Kult“!

Schnell ein paar Sätze zur Geschichte der WEATHER GIRLS: Gegründet als „Two Tons Of Fun“, wie sie sich in den Siebzigern nannten, bestand das Duo zunächst aus Izora Armstead und Martha Wash.  Mit der Aufnahme von It’s Raining Men und der Umbenennung in Weather Girls, startete Anfang der Achtziger Jahre eine Weltkarriere.
Da sich Martha Wash Ende der 80iger Jahre zu einer Solo Karriere entschloss und man die WEATHER GIRLS nur als Duo kannte, hatte Izora Armstead die Idee, ein Familienunternehmen zu gründen: „Meine Mutter rief an und fragte, ob wir nicht gemeinsam singen wollten“, erinnert sich Dynelle Rhodes. „Ich dachte erst, sie wolle mich auf den Arm nehmen, aber sie sagte forsch: ´Ich bin im Studio, arbeite an einer neuen Platte, du musst dich sofort entscheiden.´ Ich kündigte meinen Job und zog mit meinem Sohn Anthony nach New York.“
Das Debut-Familien-Album „Double Tons Of Fun“ wurde ein großer Erfolg, genau wie die darin enthaltene Hit-Single „Can U Feel It“ und die WEATHER GIRLS, nun also Mutter und Tochter setzten Ihre Erfolgsstory fort.
Als Izora sich entschloss, sich nach und nach zur Ruhe zu setzen und dem stressigen Alltag des Tournee-Lebens langsam „Adieu!“ zu sagen, hat sie wieder einen Telefonanruf gemacht. Diesmal war die andere Tochter Ingrid Arthur am anderen Ende der Leitung. Auch Ingrid brauchte nicht lange gebeten zu werden. Sie trat mit Leidenschaft in die Fußstapfen der Mutter.
Nun erscheint ein neues Studioalbum der WEATHER GIRLS und nach „Puttin’ On The Hits“ gilt wieder: „Nomen est Omen“: TOTALLY WILD! Angeführt von der Single „Wild Thang“, einer extrem tanzbaren uptempo Disco-Nummer im feinsten Hi-NRG Soundgewand ist in den Hennefer Coconut Studios für das hauseigene Label eine allerfeinste Collage aus tanzbaren Disco-Knallern und soulful Vocal-Trax entstanden, bei der Dynelle (besser bekannt als „Dee“) und Ingrid zeigen, welch großartige Stimmen sie haben.
Neben vielen neuen Kompositionen enthält TOTALLY WILD auch eine geniale Auswahl von Covers der besten Disco-Klassiker. Sowohl bei der Neuaufnahme des Hits „Can U Feel It“, als auch bei ihren Interpretationen von zum Beispiel „Born To Be Alive“, „Don’t Leave Me This Way“ oder „Muscles“, beweisen die WEATHER GIRLS dass sie seit Jahren ein fester Bestandteil dieser Szene sind, kraftvoll, dynamisch und wild: TOTALLY WILD!


Timeless within the trend: The sisters Dynelle Rhodes and Ingrid Arthur, better known as WEATHER GIRLS, are a constant hit, considering dance, pop and soul rhythms. For more than 20 years and with varying line-ups over the years, the spirited ladies perform on stage and entertain their fans with their powerful voices, good spirit and good vibes.
Who doesn’t know „It’s Raining Men“ or „Can U Feel It“, the titles, that have reached top chart positions worldwide in the past two centuries and which became probably the  most popular party hymns ever. For many years good parties cannot be imagined without these songs. The WEATHER GIRLS inspire people who are young or young at heart as well as „trendy“ and „normal“ people. These ladies are simply a „cult“!

Quickly some short facts about the history of the WEATHER GIRLS: Founded as „Two Tons Of Fun“, what they called themselves in the 70s, the duo consisted of Izora Armstead and Martha Wash. When recording „It’s Raining Men“ and renaming the duo in „Weather Girls“, a worldwide career began in the early 80s.
As Martha Wash decided to start a solo career in the late 80s and the WEATHER GIRLS were only known as a duo, Izora Armstead came up with the idea to found a family business: „My mom called and asked me, if I would like to sing together with her“, Dynelle Rhodes remembers. „At first I thought, she wanted to put me on, but she said breezily: ´I’m in the studio working on a new record and you have to decide immediately.´ I quit my job and moved to New York together with my son Anthony.“
The debut family album „Double Tons Of Fun“ became a big success, as well as the hit single „Can U Feel It“ and the WEATHER GIRLS, now mother and daughter, continued their successful story.
At the time Izora has decided to say „Good Bye“ to the stressful tour life and wanted to retire bit and bit, she did another call. This time it was her other daughter Ingrid Arthur who was on the other end of the line. It was easy to convince Ingrid. With commitment she followed in her mom’s footsteps.
Now a new studio album of the WEATHER GIRLS will be released and after „Puttin’ On The Hits“ the motto is: „Nomen est Omen“: TOTALLY WILD!
Headed by the single „Wild Thang“, an extremely danceable uptempo disco tune of the finest Hi-NRG sound style was made. It was recorded in the “Coconut Studios” in Hennef (Germany) for the in-house label and is a choicest collage out of danceable disco hits and soulful vocal trax, in which Dynelle (better known as „Dee“) and Ingrid are showing, what great voices they have.
Besides many new compositions, TOTALLY WILD also contains a fabulous collection of the best disco hit cover songs. With the re-recording of the hit „Can U Feel It“ as well as with their interpretations of, for example, „Born To Be Alive“, „Don’t Leave Me This Way“ or „Muscles“, the WEATHER GIRLS prove, that they still are an inherent part of the scene:
